Nissan has launched the Sunny in India with a petrol option only with prices starting at Rs. 5.78 lakhs ex showroom Delhi for the XE variant and Rs. 6.88 lakhs for the XL variant and Rs. 7.68 lakhs for the top end XV model. Diesel options are likely to be available from January, 2012 onward. The Sunny is the second car built on the V or versatile platform, after the Micra. At the launch Nissan officials have said that India is an important market for Nissan and that by 2015 three more cars would be launched. No details about the segment and prices of the cars were given. The Sunny though in the Ford Fiesta, Hyundai Verna and Honda City segment is extremely spacious and can give bigger cars such as the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla Altis and even the Skoda Laura a run for their money in terms of the interior space.
